To the editor,
I recently brought a car up from the States—a nice clean and tidy car—and at the border I got fleeced. I paid six percent duty, then seven percent GST, then on to Access Nova Scotia to pay a further seven percent for the PST. On a $5,000 car…well, you add it up. And where does all this money go? Not into the roads, that's for sure. With the tonnes of salt and the gaping potholes, my new car will soon look like every other shitbox. And another thing—have you ever noticed that the same guys dropping the blades on their snow plows on Agricola are on pothole duty come August? Talk about a make-work scheme. To the feds and their provincial counterparts I say this: If you are going to take my hard-earned car money, put it into the roads.
