Since moving east about seven years ago, Ian Sherwood has built a reputation as a musical dynamo. Though he gets significant friendly backup on this record, there's no mistaking the energy source. A hootenanny sing-along spirit drives "Non-Believer." The chorus "She's in love with the faith in me" could easily be heard as "She's in love with the pagan me." Misheard lyrics up the amusement. Another great line is "If that woman don't kill me, I think I'm gonna save her life." In these times when everybody gets labelled an addict of something, hedonism in its purest form can still be attractive. Sherwood used to be a sax-playing sideman and adds brassy flourish to "Firemen's Ball," full of metaphors relating to incendiary breakup. His theatre background grants him a sense of maximizing what's available. Whether it's doubling down on rhythm guitar or purposefully random drums, as on "Big Love," *Everywhere to Go* stays mostly acoustic, yet please don't label it "folk". "No Water" concludes the set mostly of love songs with a searing depiction of drought and its victims. The temptation is to call the album "efficient". He does pack a lot of moves into 26 minutes.
