Jack Johnson
Sleep Through the Static
(Brushfire/Universal)
Sleep Through the Static, the latest release from Jack Johnson, is a return to form after he moved away from the quiet, introspective sound of Brushfire Fairytales and On and On to the more commercially accessible In Between Dreams and the Curious George soundtrack. You can hear hints of the singer's laid-back surfer vibe growing more subversive though it's easy to take the sound at face value. Invest the time to actually listen to the lyrical content and you'll be richly rewarded, as Johnson shares his views on the war overseas and on his country's overall direction. As the saying goes, good things come to those who wait.
