These student journalists pitched me the story on Monday morning. It was held until today because our paper comes out weekly on Thursday. Also, Lindsay can't pitch stories to us about Nocturne stuff out of a conflict of interest. We'd ignore it if she did.
Really, these things take time. We talked about running something before the election, but it would have been rushed, unverified in several key ways and ultimately a disservice to all the people involvedespecially Michelle.
I think maybe the story could have made a difference in some ways before Monday night, but it's impossible to know. I'm glad we made the call to hold it, to be honest, rather than push it out just to chase a bigger news splash for the paper.
I said "big" not "huge," but that was largely about getting their leader into the Legislature. Also the party had only five incumbents heading into the night, so seven ridings with Burrill defeating Stroink (along with the surprise toppling of Joanne Bernard in Dartmouth North) sure felt like a victory if you were asking any New Democrats last night. But for clarity's sake, I did update the post above to mention how many seats they had at dissolution. Thanks!
