JazzEast tips their hat to the '20s.

Out Like a Lion fest roars into the weekend with the Prohibition Swing Dance.

JazzEast's Out Like A Lion festival looked to the roaring '20s when planning this event. They're calling it Halifax's greatest dance party---you're probably thinking, "that's a pretty bold statement," and it is, but it might just be a warranted one. It starts like this: you put on your amazing flapper outfit, tuck a feather in your hair and head to the Olympic Centre for 8pm. That's when Dal's Swing Dance Society preps you for the evening that awaits you by teaching you the classic Charleston. (This applies to both pairs and singles, and let's be honest, once you've got these moves down you won't be flying solo for long.) Then you grab a drink from the speakeasy menu, and prep for major tunes from the Parisian gypsy jazzsters Swingology, and the Jubilee Swing Orchestra (who we're told are bringing guests Carmen Townsend and Stewart Legere). Then test out those new dance moves for a chance to win a flashy new bike from the Halifax Cycle Gallery. Your feet will hurt by the end of this ferocious night, but man will it be worth it.

Fri Mar 30, Olympic Centre, 2304 Hunter Street, 8pm, $25/$40, 492-2225
