Jon McKiel

Confidence Lodge EP (Youth Club)

From the opening strains of the Pavement-meets-Neil Young chords of Jon McKiel’s “Monster of the Miramichi,” you are in for a varied and complex indie rock record. On Confidence Lodge,
McKiel’s new EP, which also acts as a preview for his forthcoming full-length, Tonka Warcloud, the Nova Scotian songwriter mixes Canuck rock and roots music to make a highly listenable fragment of his time in the studio during the past year. If the upbeat “Motion Pictures” and acoustic strumming of “Snow Owls” are any indication, the three years between his previous album were well worth the wait to see where McKiel and his guitar will go next.
