Killer kings

Drag n’ Shag brings together drag kings, gender benders and allies to raise funds for the trans community.

The kings go Greased Lightin'.
The kings go Greased Lightin'.

You better bow down to these kings---they're using their royalty for good. Oz (Mr. Gay Halifax III) is the brains behind the Drag 'n' Shag, an event gathering the best of the city's drag kings and genderbenders to take the stage and raise awareness and funds for the local trans community. All proceeds from the night will be split down the middle, with half heading to the non-profit TransAction Society and half helping a local trans candidate with transitioning costs. "This night will be all about support. Foremost, the support we need is financial, but always important are the allies and friends that help foster and sustain our movement for a community driven in support of trans people," says Oz, who'll also host the evening alongside fellow king Kowyn and open the show with the K-Oz Boyz. Bid on auction items and check out group numbers and live performances from the killer list performers, which includes Mr. Ref's Ryder, Shay, Hugh Lovitt, Robyn Korners, Dixon Cider and Vincent St. Grace.

Sunday June 26, Reflections Cabaret, 5184 Sackville Street, 10pm, $7
