King Louie

Drilluminati (independent)

Just by existing, King Louie questions hegemonic capitalism, paradoxically celebrating capitalist excesses while drawing attention to the crippling social inequality that is its natural result. Still, songs like anthem “My Hoes They Do Drugs” are doing nothing to destroy patriarchy, reifying a truly revolting kind of misogyny. Even at his most hateful (AKA always) Louie’s charisma and fantastic flow shine through. He sounds at home on nearly any kind of beat, and it is genuinely fun to listen to him rap. More sonically interesting than whatever rock record is below this one with about the same gender politics as their songs about ex-girlfriends.
