Re: “Why does no one give a fuck?

As someone who moved from Ontario to NS and who worked in the grocery industry both places, I can tell you across the board that groceries here cost at least 30% more than in Ontario. Rent has skyrocketed because of this supposed ship deal with no increase in wages to make up for it. Piss-poor shitholes in bad neighbourhoods now cost as much as a decent place in the core less 2 years ago. Power is way more expensive here than cities that have publicly-owned utilities and would have been across the board had it not been for the McGuinty Liberals in Ontario forcing so many municipalities to privatize their utilities. Payroll and income taxes are higher here than anywhere in the country and there are fewer deductions you can claim on your taxes. I lost $800 on my tax return for having the misfortune to live here for one month at the end of a year where the first 11 were spent in Ontario.

Everything the OP said is right, the comment about women was unfortunate but in some ways accurate if you read the whole comment and realize the type of women s/he's referring to. The people writing back hate and denial are the reason that none of these circumstances get better. It's great that you like to live here, too bad you don't like it so much that you'd be willing to fight to make it better. Liquor prices are INSANE here and the people are getting nothing back from the government to compensate for the criminal tax rates. Making moonshine at home is not the answer, I'm sorry, that's just not a dignified solution and to use that as an excuse for why people shouldn't give a fuck that the government is marking up liquor 6-fold is pathetic and pure cowardice. Why complain when we can drink moonshine and smoke native cigarettes, right?

And yes I know unemployment is rampant across the country - everyone knows that - but it sure is easier for someone who is forced to work below their skill level for minimum wage to make it and live with a little dignity in a one-bedroom apartment in other provinces than it is here.
