Lee Park EP Release with Oy Gevalt

When: Sun., July 25, 8 p.m. 2010

Local violinist Lee Park is fresh off a two-month klezmer music internship in Israel, and is set to show off her new playing skills at this Sunday's EP release. "He [Daniel Hoffman] taught me three times a week for two months, and I learned a lot about klezmer, Arab music, jazz, blues and funk and how to fuse all these things," says Park, on a break from being a full-time musician at the Ardmore Tea Room. "I put together a new group and it's going to be a really young, fun group---everyone in the group is so talented and easy going." This new group is Oy Gevalt, which will see Matt Myer, Jeff Torbert, Ron Hynes, Matthew Gallant and Ian Bent performing at the show, along with Park, in support of her EP release, Joyful Sorrow. Park's first EP is a project she's been working on for the last five years, and it includes two Klezmer pieces, two tango pieces and a track with a string quartet. Pick it up at the show for $10, or on Park's website post-release. –Holly Gordon
