Letters to the editor, June 14, 2018

These are the letters and comments from the print edition.

Our readers rule!!!

Happy 25th anniversary to @TwitCoast, which is one of my fondest memories of home ("Ink, sweat and tears" anniversary issue, June 7). I started reading it as a teenager and I felt so cool reading the "indie" paper. I still pick up a paper copy every time I'm home. There's nothing like it here in Ottawa, and I miss it. —@gravystacks, via Twitter

Happiest 25th anniversary to @TwitCoast - I was in a dark place & didn't know if I could push myself to write again almost a year after I graduated. it brought me back to what I love & gave me the push I needed. Lots of respect to an important local publication for MANY reasons. —@dina_lobo19

Honestly though, I emailed @TwitCoast in 2011 to pitch a not very good comic idea. I had been doing illustration work for them but comics were new to me. They didn't have the space. But they were kind and lied to me telling me that my idea was not horrible. —@paulrodeo

I still have our very first "coming soon" ad from 10 years ago. I'll never forget the thrill of being in the coolest little paper I'd ever read. Thank you for everything you do for the Halifax arts & business community —@MokshaHali

When Plumtree was ending & I had no idea what to do with my life, the amazing folks at @TwitCoast gave me a job and let me go to editorial meetings and published my writing before I even knew what I was doing. All of that led me everywhere else. I'm so grateful. —@guitarlacarla

When I was at Acadia in the early '90s, anyone going in to The City for the weekend had one mission: "Bring back The Coast." You were a Halifax friend before I lived here, @TwitCoast, and a constant ever since. —@krisp131Twitter

Happy 25th @TwitCoast! You're better and better every year. You cover stories other locals would never touch and bring in so many great people. You and @stephaniejohns pulled me outta Mexico and gave me a year-long opportunity to learn how to write and I'm forever thankful! —@RyanAllenb

I used to volunteer with newcomer high school students for a while at the YMCA. We would all get coffee and read @TwitCoast out loud each week. Amazing discussions. @wardrachel

@TwitCoast is very kind to me here, and I appreciate it. I had some very good days with some very good people at The Coast. Congrats on 25 years! —@Tim_Bousquet

I count myself grateful to have been able to grow as a writer at @TwitCoast. And I am honoured to still be involved, 22 years after I started there (when I was a mere seven years old). —@lezlielowe

@lezlielowe Reading your @TwitCoast series on HIV/AIDS in university opened my eyes to a whole new (to me) kind of writing, and made me want to learn to do it. —@chelsea_murray

@twitcoast the first alt-weekly I fell in love with (and whose voice I long-ago tried to emulate in NB's dearly departed Here Magazine) —@joshokane Happy anniversary to @TwitCoast, publisher of great cartoonists over the years, including even me, once! If you don't have a paper like The Coast, you ain't a real city. —@scottmarshall

My aunt used to send me copies when I was growing up in Truro, some hazy memories of going on the harbour cruise for what I believe was the 5th anniversary, with Thrush Hermit playing on the boat —@PeterHanes

It's hard to believe that it's been 25 years since Tom, Aran, Andy, Andy, Christine and Kyle launched The Coast fresh from graduating from King's. I can't imagine the city without it. —@Dartmouth_Tim

I honestly can't imagine (and can hardly remember) #Halifax without you. —@LisaRobertsHfx

Thank you for giving me my first job in Halifax, my first journo office job, and for introducing me to a group of incredible people. I forgive you for making me enter all the movie times off a fax sheet. —@flinnflon
