Letters to the Editor

On Saturday, October 7, members of Animal Rights Collective of Halifax attended the Professional Bull Riding (PBR) event at Exhibition Park. They caught, on video, serious acts of animal abuse including electric prod shocking, tail twisting and pulling, genital crushing, and kicking. In a press conference last week, the PBR claimed that their bulls are not subject to this abuse. Clearly, they are deceiving the public out of a vested interest.

PBR refers to their bulls as athletes. In no modern-day sport are human athletes kept in captivity and forced to perform for the public. If it's unethical to treat humans this way, why is it acceptable to do it to bulls?

PBR has lied to the public about the treatment of their bulls. Now that the truth is out, it is time for everyone to ask themselves whether they want to support animal cruelty for a night of entertainment.
