Letters to the Editor

On Sunday May 27, oh what a glourious day to be outside basking in the summer warmth. We spent the morning in Point Pleasant Park, biking through the trails, eating breakfast by the sea. We stopped, rested and lingered on a little while. When all of a sudden, we were stopped by the park patrol of the day, and not given a warning but issued a citation for riding a bike in the Park on a Sunday, which we did not know was not allowed. You see there are 2 signs that show that bikes are not allowed in the Park on weekends, both are located to the main enterances. One in the upper parking lot, and the other on Birch Road. Not only were there the 2 of us that we issued citations, but at least 12 people were issued a citation with a value of $222.00. We went back to the park, measured the signage, took pictures of the locations of the signs, and believe me that they are small enough and the lettering is even smaller that you would never notice it unless you came to a dead stop and read them, and of course that is assuming that you you only entered through the 2 enterances where there was a hint of signage posted. If you would like to protest these, flood your city councillor with letters, protest at the courthouse on July 20th @ 8:30am when we are all due to appear in court. This is insane, promote a healthy lifestyle..but where? Next to the Park Patrol vehicle that was sitting idling on the gravel road. Apparently they have to leave them idling in the name of Occupational Health and safety so that if they need to get away they can in a hurry, get away in a hurry in an area that does not allow bikes, but allows the operation of a motor vehicle at the Park's busiest times.
