Exponential Growth of the Fertile Feline
One unspayed feline and her unaltered descendents can potentially produce 370,000 cats in 7 years!
We, at Bide Awhile Animal Shelter, are committed to helping vulnerable and homeless animals. However, Bide Awhile is forced to turn away approximately 30 animals a day or more than 7,000 each year. We believe in and aggressively promote responsible pet ownership. Owning a pet is a serious commitment and cannot be taken lightly.
In operation for nearly 40 years, Bide Awhile is one of Nova Scotia’s first no-kill shelters.
With no opportunity to expand our current 100 year old facility on Eaton Ave., Dartmouth, Bide Awhile is building a new shelter. We will then be in a better position to significantly expand our Rescue and Adoption, Spay and Neuter, and Education programs. We will continue to be active in a “pet visitation program” to nursing homes in HRM and participate in the Young Offenders Program by providing community work opportunities.
Our Capital Campaign to “Build a Better Bide Awhile” is underway. We have bought the land and have raised more than $200,000 with the help of some of our generous supporters, including HRM. We look forward to continuing to participate in “Building a Better Community” for us all as we seek support from our corporate sector and the residents of HRM to make our dream become a reality.
For further information on Bide Awhile and how you can help, call us at 902-469-9578 or check out our website at www.bideawhile.org.
