My neighbour wanted me to submit this as well as the letter I sent in previously, today, as she found it had more punch:
We now live in Victoria, in a pleasant townhouse on the Lochside Trail, and I'd like to tell the Halifax people a thing or two about how to make a city, not that they want a housing bubble over there...
One: get a walking and bicycling trail. The Galloping Goose Trail and the Lochside Trail in Greater Victoria are wonderful lifestyle additions and go from the airport and ferry docks to the western coast of the Island.
Two: get a tree preservation by-law and an urban design standard for all subdividing and building approvals. Our old property in Halifax is being hit by a tree-rapist, and the neighbourhood is up in arms. Many of that property's beautiful old heritage oaks and pines and birches are gone as of yesterday, simply so some idiot who doesn't have any concept of history or urban design can subdivide a lot and build boxes there, thereby wiping out history, scenery, memories, meaning...
