Re: “To the panhandler outside the Halifax ferry station

I happened to be down there (I believe) on the same day doing some work and got asked by (whom I suspect) is the same fellow. He doesn't remember, but I caught him stashing possessions under my back deck in the North end a few months ago and he got borderline aggressive on that occasion. I'm guessing from the vibes he has some untreated mental health issues, so try not to take it personally OB. Personally, though, I'm wary of this fellow because he seems a bit unpredictable.

Re: “Glut of office space disastrous for Halifax Convention Centre financials

Extremely successful, except in the sense it loses money each and every year to the tune of 18 million dollars in 10 years.

If it were my business venture, I wouldn't consider that success.

Re: “Halifax police will keep using street checks

@JohnvG, I respect that position but I think you have a different perspective as an older and generally respectable looking white man. As a young person who doesn't always "look" respectable (aka completely average), the handful of times I've been stopped for something like this made me feel targeted, and the imbalance of power between police and citizen makes me feel as though I can't say no. Police are carrying weapons that are capable of killing, and carry the trust of the justice system to use them with a high likelihood of no consequences. I know that I have the right to not answer questions, but refusal is met with additional suspicion and sometimes aggression instead of understanding. As a citizen it is none of the state's business where I am going or what I am doing so long as I have not committed a crime and it is wrong for police to be nosing into a citizens business without evidence of a crime. Every encounter with police makes me feel powerless and a little violated (not trying to be dramatic, but I don't have a better word).

Re: “Bicycle Awards to recognize Halifax's growing cyclist culture

I also bicycle fairly regularly, Halifax is most certainly not "relatively flat". I feel like "relatively hilly" or even "very hilly" are better terms.... I mean, if you only go from Agricola to Oxford and from Young to Quinpool.... I suppose it is generally flat-ish. Relatively flat is a huge stretch.

Re: “King's student union addresses racism after cancelling Wu-Tang Clan night

Disclosure- I am a white cisgender male

White people shouldn't be using those words, ESPECIALLY at events like this. It's too bad that an event that could bring people together over the mutual love for a particular artist has to be cancelled when it could instead bring understanding and help to erode the lines racism has wrought in our society. In the future, I'm wondering if an announcement/rule were to be made about singing along (as in, DONT) or about being sensitive to others with your language use would be enough to change behavior? I suppose that would only work if people actually obey those rules though...

Re: “Rapists

I'm sorry this happened to you. I hope you have success putting this behind you, even with no validation from the justice system.

Re: “The Oval’s $2.5-million pavilion

Too bad about the chillers, that would have brought the carbon footprint down considerably.
