I’ll admit it: I’ve never played the Magic
trading card game, but after playing the video game version I can see why it has legions of fans. I won’t get into how the game is played---as it’s quite complex---but clobbering enemies is fulfilling and each defeat a learning exercise. Every match will be different and require different cards for to win. Magic 2012
isn’t without its faults; the opening cinematic introduces an epic storyline that never resurfaces---a continuing narrative would have added to the experience. The multiplayer mode is completely broken. After playing through the amazing campaign, it’s natural to want to try out newfound nerd skills on others; sadly this feature hasn’t worked since I got the game, hopefully will be fixed soon with a patch. The single player modes somehow make up for the other faults by delivering one of the most addictive strategy experiences in recent memory.
