Re: “Handouts, handouts, handouts

I agree with you Blue Collared Worker. I work hard and pay my taxes every year and don't appreicae that some just sit on their buts and use my money to drink or buy drugs. Now of course not all people take advantage of our system and those who use it respectfully deserve to use it. If something happens to me someday I may need to use it too. Thats what its for, people who need it. It was intended to be a lifestyle or a life long thing. Food banks were a temporary measure in Canada a few decades ago and now look at them. If you're poor and don't have enough money to pay for the basics thats too bad, but there is more than charity that can help you. You should help yourself if you are able. And nearly everyone can help themselves and others in some way. Focus on what you can do, not what you can't. Maybe people come from disadvantage, me included, and work their way out of that. I don't like the word charity, its for those who really need it- like kids who lost thier parents in a car accident - for that charity I'm there. Or the single father who's wife just died and he has 2 handicapped children, and can't afford a wheelchair - I'm in for that. But not for the 25 year old young man, who has no disability, sleeps every day til noon, drinks and parties at night, and smokes dope every day. So careful how you define your charity.
