Miracle Man

When: July 12-Aug. 16 2014

I can’t imagine a more perfect pairing of play and venue than The Miracle Man at Ross Creek. This new musical by Allen Cole and Michael O’Brien tells the story of a gang of con-artists who hatch the perfect score using an elderly small-town “miracle man” to swindle rich city folk. But somewhere along the way, the crooks themselves are transformed. There is a sense that the transformations are wrought as much by the beauty and peacefulness of the place as by the miracle man himself, a beauty and peacefulness that surrounds the audience at Ross Creek. Cole’s jazzy score soars under the open sky, and it seems that even the birds become part of the production. The cast is truly talented, revelling in the broad comic moments but also delivering lovely emotional nuances. Miraculous! —Kate Watson
