Mocean Dance: Live in 3

When: March 18-20 2010

Rockstars, dream states and immortals are just the beginning of what Mocean Dance’s newest work, Live at 3, brings to Neptune Studio Theatre this week. The local contemporary dance company, with dancers Carolle Crooks, Sarah Rozee and Tania Jean performing this show, are world premiering three new works. The first, choreographed by Cory Bowles, is a solo for Crooks. “The feeling of that piece is kind of like a rock concert,” says Crooks. “I’m dancing as a solo vocalist, with a microphone…I sing with movement.” The second work, choreographed by Susan Elliott, is a solo for Rozee. “The atmosphere of the piece is looking back on a memory, but it has a dream-like atmosphere to it because it’s not linear, and it’s a little bit absurd at times,” details Rozee. Then there’s the final piece---created by choreographer Sharon Moore, it’s the longest piece of the evening and, say all three girls, the most physically and emotionally exhausting. “It’s a strange bizarre world where the three of us have---it feels like we’ve been alive for centuries,” says Crooks. “Sometimes we’re trying to take each other out or get ahead, scheming and plotting and torturing and killing and helping and saving,” she adds, laughing. Enter Mocean’s world today, tomorrow or Saturday. –Holly Gordon
