Starting Friday, Morris East
(5212 Morris Street, 444-7663) is introducing a new Lunch prix-fixe menu---two courses for $14, reports owner and pizza expert Jennie Dobbs.
This includes a half-pizza with a local organic green salad and a salted caramel tartlette for dessert. You can add a mocktail, such as the Cherry Thyme Bomb---housemade black cherry and thyme cordial shaken with pineapple juice---for $3, or a real cocktail for $6, which can be substituted for a glass of house red or white.
Also starting up in June is a running club. "Actually, it's a wine club with a running problem," explains Dobbs. "There are two criteria to join the club. One: You must love good food and wine. Two: You must love running."
On Tuesday evenings in June, club members will meet at Morris East for a 5k run along the waterfront. After the run, members will enjoy a good bottle of wine selected by the wine and beverage director who will provide tasting notes and a pizza. Cost is $20, including the run, pizza and wine. "I'm about to eat my 1000th pizza this month which I believe is the secret to helping me achieve a new personal best of sub-one hour-48-minutes for the Bluenose Half-Marathon in a few weeks," says Dobbs. "Morris East pizza is the perfect food for runners."
One more tip regarding Morris East. Dobbs has started recipe-testing calzones. They'll be finalized for the summer menu on June 14.
