City staff has written a mostly favourable report about the prospects of keeping the Common skating oval (see thecoast.ca/OvalReport
), but stresses that the issue needs more investigation. They will bring a more detailed report to city council in March. With so much community enthusiasm for The Oval, and with the prospect of it becoming permanent, we got to thinking: Shouldn’t The Oval have a name besides “The Oval”? Twitter correspondent @huskermould suggests “The Harold MacKay Memorial Power Plant” for the electrical unit on the site, and that’s pretty much unbeatable, we think, but that still leaves The Oval wide open. What do you think? Leave your suggestions for a permanent name for the permanent oval on the comments on this post at thecoast.ca/bites, and we’ll arbitrarily decide upon the best suggestion, which we’ll award with all sorts of accolades, to be determined.
