New Buffalo
The Last Beautiful Day
Arts & Crafts
It appears that Arts & Crafts, Toronto’s indie label par excellence and home to the family most often referred to as Broken Social Scene has moved way outside their inner circle. New Buffalo is the Melbourne, Australia-based singer-songwriter Sally Seltmann. She began creating this album in 2002 with the help of Madonna/Björk producer Jake Davis but then thought better of it, packed up, flew back to Australia and recorded at her home studio with the help of her husband — TheAvalanches’ Darren Setlmann. The result glimmers: a multi-textured, sometimes ambient pop soundscape featuring the oft-times pixieish vocals of Ms. Seltmann. Influences of Björk and Stereolab weave their way throughout the recording. It’s refreshing.
