NSCC - Investment Management Program

Leanne Gillan I’m a Investment Advisor Assistant at CIBC Wood Gundy

Out of school I had the courses required to become a licensed assistant. My training at CIBC Wood Gundy, along with an Investment Representative course through Canadian Securities Institute completed that license.

Within a year, I was able to upgrade my license to a Registered Representative via the Wealth Management Essentials course through CSI. This license allows me to offer advice as well. I've always had an interest in working in an office setting, and I have been employed in that type of situation since I started working. I started at an accounting firm and did some receptionist jobs, so I knew that I wanted to do something business-related. I've also been interested in the economy, so I looked at some of the different NSCC business courses. While not completely knowing what to expect of the Investment Management Program, I took an interest right away and knew it was something I would like to do long-term.

My first day on the job was pretty good! A lot of it was getting to know the systems. There are a lot of things that can be time-sensitive, especially working with the markets, but I really love that. Every day is different: I never come in expecting anything—there's no sitting down and doing the daily routine.
