Your Thursday link pile. BAM!

“I just walked back to the hotel room with my hands on my head, defeated. I'm sure tears were brewing. And I had to say, ‘Hey everyone, we just lost $10,000 worth of gear between now and 45 minutes ago.'" That’s Loel Campbell of Wintersleep telling Radio 3’s Jennifer Van Evra about the quintet’s gear-jack in Baton Rouge last week, literally hours before they played the inaugural Pemberton Festival in BC. Most of Campbell’s drums, guitars owned by Tim D’Eon and Paul Murphy and Mike Bigelow’s bass were amongst the pinched. A mere week before the theft, we witnessed Glen Nicholson of In-Flight Safety lamenting the limited availability of Campbell’s kit during Wintersleep’s incredible Summersonic set, so it’s not like he can just go to a Wal-Mart in Vancouver and get a new one. ... The Halifax Pop Explosion has pushed its showcase deadline back five days to August 6. Get your shit together! Details here. ... Buy two envelopes while you’re at it -- applications for showcases at Nova Scotia Music Week are due August 15 through Sonicbids, ici. ... We don’t make the news, we just report it: Jesus takes the wheel and drops Carrie Underwood off at the Metro Centre on October 12, while Chris Issak hits the venue a month prior on September 15. That would probably be cool. (PS: He hot.) We’ve also heard a terrible James Blunt-related rumour, and fear that, like the chupacabra, just mentioning him summons his presence, but the general population must be warned. It’s our civic duty, really. All Metro Centre tix available at Ticket Atlanic, or old-school via rotary phone at 451-1221.
