Bone dry fountain in the Common.

Bone dry fountain in the Common.

Remarks: The fountain was built in 1967, before locals were smart enough to want fountains you could stick your feet in and let the kiddies run through. So the thing's a disaster waiting to happen---gazillion megawatt cables running at ankle height, through water, no less. Hence, the hideous fence to keep us out. Bigelow says the wiring is being reworked in unimaginably complex ways, and the fountain will be running again "by fall"---just in time to turn it off for the winter.

Who's Responsible?: Peter Bigelow, real property manager for HRM, 490-6047

Status: August 2008: Still dry It seems for once a property manager is staying true to his word, August has arrived and the fountain is still dry. As much as you may miss the ambience it brings to the Common, you will most likely have to wait until summer 2009 before you will see its water running again. Updated by Amanda Wenek
