Remarks: A half-dozen different readers called with the same complaint: On the Chebucto widening east of Mumford, had they not put in the median, they wouldn't have needed to cut down the trees to find the extra space on the side of the road. McCusker says the median was needed so the lanes line up properly to the west. Sure, but that doesn't seem to present a problem anywhere else in town (see: Robie and Quinpool). In any event, lots of new trees are part of the project, assuming they survive through all the car exhaust and global warming.
Who's Responsible?: Dave McCusker, traffic supervisor, 490-6696.
Status: December 2008: Broken It’s doubtful HRM will rip up the medians and about a foot of concrete on each side of the road to give people back sections of their front yards. But right now the medians feel like a slap in the face. Did traffic authorities just get greedy and bite off more than they needed? Updated by Lizzy Hill
