Open hearts, open farms

Halifax journal Open Heart Forgery launches a special issue

"The idea is to give people who want to express themselves in poetry a place where they could send it. I think of it as being a 'pick-up game of poetry,' where anyone is welcome to play," says Mary Ellen Sullivan, who's a regular contributor to Open Heart Forgery. OHForgery is a free, monthly collection of poems written by HRM residents, and can be found at libraries and selected businesses throughout the city. In July, poetry fans are in for a treat that's twice the reading pleasure. A regular OHForgery will be published, along with a second and special issue called Open Heart Farming. "It's unique in that the poems are on the same theme---food issues and farming," says Sullivan. "Submissions include 20 poets from North Sydney to Advocate Harbour, Antigonish County to Yarmouth County."
