Parades are the heart of any festival and the Halifax Pride Parade is no exception. Halifax's 26th annual parade will be held Saturday July 27, beginning at 1:30pm on Lower Water Street. The parade route continues down Barrington Street to Spring Garden Road and ends at the Garrison Grounds at 3pm.

This year's festival theme is "your city, your pride." The Halifax pride committee encourages everyone to go glitz and glam, be colourful and creative, go big and have lots of fun at the parade. The committee expresses that the parade is not only about pride in your community, but celebrating diversity and the variety of life in Halifax while respecting subtle differences amongst its citizens and visitors and creating an inclusive experience for all. The committee encourages everyone to have an open and supportive attitude.

Entries for the float contest are judged the day of the parade and the winning entries will then receive signs to be secured to their float or group for the duration of the parade. There is no registration the day of the parade and unregistered entries will be turned away.

After the parade, stick around for the post-parade community fair from 3-6pm. The festival stage will feature afternoon performances from Heather Green, Kelly and the Kelly Girls, Big Fish and hostess Rogue Fatale. Halifax Pride also continues to offer Kids Can, an area on site specifically geared toward kids, with games and activities.

The parade goes on, rain or shine. Both the parade and the community fair are both free festival events. For more information you can email parade@halifaxpride.ca
