Memory Almost Full

McCartney, possibly the wealthiest entertainer in history, has been reticent about using the events that put him there as fodder. He loosens up a bit on Memory Almost Full, and it gives proceedings a sense of connection and warmth. The four songs that run from “Vintage Clothes” through “House of Wax” flow together like the last third of Abbey Road, examining how the past can be neither relived nor ignored. On “That Was Me,” he allows “It’s pretty hard to take it all in” about how quickly his fame took shape. “Only Mama Knows” even offers an echo of Wings. He can still hit the high notes and, past 64, can still leave you humming along.
