Peter Roberts' memorial show, KISS all night!

Gus’ bartender and all-around great guy Peter Roberts passed away on December 29, leaving a hole in the Halifax music community that he loved and supported. Many of you will remember his sardonic smile and teasing nature that made everyone feel at home when he was behind the bar. Gus’ Pub booker BA Johnston has organized a benefit show to honour his memory and raise funds to help his family pay for the funeral service. “He was a big KISS fan, he always took time off work to go to the KISS expo, although he usually complained about it,” says Johnston. “I thought it would be a fun way to help pay tribute to the man, as well as to defray some of the funeral costs for the family.” Thursday, January 15, head to Gus’ to raise a glass to Peter while enjoying some of his favourite music. A wide variety of Halifax musicians will cover KISS songs all night in tribute to Peter. Acts confirmed so far are: The Gideons, Nerd Army, The Maynards, Laura Peek and the Winning Hearts, The Art Department, Cuban Assassins, Myles Deck and the Fuzz, No Flyers Please, The Broken Ohms, Fistfight, The Grass, Skullet and A Speaking Engagement with Mark Black. “Peter was just such a genuinely nice guy. He was more than a bartender, for a lot of people he was a friend,” says Johnston. “Whether you would see him at Gus’ or at the grocery store he was always there with a smile or a joke. It’s tragic that he has left us so young and I know in some ways Gus’ Pub will not be the same without him behind the bar cracking wise.”
