On February 19, just over a week after Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak stepped down, Tarek Abouamin arrived in Cairo to witness history in the making. The Egyptian-born NSCAD film professor and documentary filmmaker had anxiously been watching the uprising unfold from his Halifax home, but it wasn't until the university's February break rolled around that he could see it for himself, and begin working on his now award-winning doc 18 Days. During his visit he collected 8,000 crowd-sourced photos, many taken by anonymous photographers, that help to give an emotional narrative to turbulent times. A sampling from these photos, Preparing for Dawn, now hangs chronologically in the Anna Leonowens Gallery, giving a day-by-day, raw and real glimpse of those 18 revolutionary days in Tahrir Square.

To November 5, Anna Leonowens Gallery, NSCAD, 1891 Granville Street
