Resident Evil: Afterlife will never die

Yet another round of mindless action and gore gets pushed into decent, dumb-fun territory.

No one’s put a bullet through the skull of this video game-based zombie movie series, so it’s back to deliver another round of mindless action and gore. Milla Jovovich, the poor woman’s Angelina Jolie, reprises her role as a superheroine out to punish the company responsible for turning most of humanity into undead flesh eaters. The film itself demands only a zombie’s level of mental engagement. Who cares whether Jovovich and her buddies find a virus-free haven or deliver payback to the creepy corporate bastards---or if any of it makes a lick of sense---when there are buildings, planes and craniums to blow up? The showy but effective 3D photography makes the mayhem more amusing than it has a right to be, pushing this sequel into decent dumb-fun territory.
