I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this bitch is ridiculous. It is polite to thank the bus driver.. even from the back door. He/She is bringing you some where. I hate to think there are people out there who don't say thank you to Taxi Drivers, Bus Drivers, or anyone else who picks you up and drops you off. And if you like it quiet and don't want to be "disturbed" by people being polite then wear headphones or don't take the bus. Also there are CLEAR signs in the bus indicating that you should use the back door to exit so that you don't hold up the people trying to get on the bus at the front. Trust me as a daily bus taker the bus driver DOES appreciate it when you say thank you and don't hold up the natural flow of traffic. Think before you speak.
