Cindy Doire and Andrea Ramolo, the duo also known as Scarlett Jane, are driving through a Quebec rainstorm, east-coast bound. "We're losers because we're both wearing shorts and tube tops because it was so hot in Toronto," says Doire as Ramolo laughs from the passenger seat, "and now it's pouring rain." The pair has been friends for a decade, traversing the Toronto scene together. "We collaborated in the past, she sang backups on my album and vice versa," says Ramolo. "We would back each other up live, play in each other's bands---and all of our fans wanted that album, wanted that CD." They made that album this year and released it in May; Stranger is a smoky, soulful collection of love-life songs they wrote together and "sing together in harmony," as Ramolo says, in complimentary life-worn voices. "We work so well together," says Doire. "A song goes through two minds, two hearts, two everything." —Tara Thorne
