School Board responses | Opinion | Halifax, Nova Scotia | THE COAST

To the editor,

I read with interest Kimber's article about the Halifax school board and the upcoming election. While I found the first part of the article on Howard Windsor and his role as the school board enlightening, I was a little disconcerted with his section on the current election. With 36 candidates running, the article featured quotes and comments from only two (along with a picture of only one of the featured candidates).

While neither of the two featured candidates is in my district, I wondered why these two were singled out. Were the other candidates given an opportunity to comment on the election? I find it hard to believe that only two of 36 candidates would have taken up the offer to comment in The Coast.

In an election where the school board candidates will be coming under greater scrutiny, why did Kimber provide what is little more than free advertising to these two candidates? In the interest of fairness, should not each of the candidates have been given the opportunity to state their views?
