For several years, every Christmas Eve my mom and I would try to read as much of Dickens' A Christmas Carol that we could out loud to each other before we inevitably got too tired and quit. There's a special kind of holiday magic that brews in between the words of stories read aloud that Corey Mombourquette is harnessing for the Lilah Kemp Reading Series that will warm your heart this season with readings from Carol Bruneau, Christina Canales, David Huebert and Johnelle Sciocchetti. Not only that, there'll be comedy from Dave Burke and real magic (not the metaphorical kind) by Bill Wood. It's a great lineup and Mombourquette's excited. "I'm going wear a holiday sweater and smile more than I usually do," he promises. Which is exactly what you'll do, especially during intermission when he has a little somethin' special planned. "One of my family Christmas traditions has been watching holiday specials from the '80s. We have this old VHS tape and each year we get together and watch it. The commercials are really awesome. I find that advertisements don't tell stories the way they used to, there's a charm and nostalgia to them." The best part? "During intermission we're going to play it." Get yer festive sweaters ready.
