- Fiddleheads popping up in Bedford
This fall, the eco-friendly family storeFiddleheads Kids Shop (300 Prince Albert Road) is opening a second location on Nine Mile Circle in Larry Uteck Boulevard, right next door to the new Morris East!
Co-owner, Nancy Rector, says that Fiddleheads is a destination store for people coming in from numerous parts of the province and even PEI. “People who were driving to our store [in Dartmouth] from Halifax and Bedford didn’t get over as often as they wanted,” she says.
The idea of opening a second location was always on the radar for two mompreneurs at Fiddleheads but it was difficult to find the perfect location. However, when the Bedford location popped up everything fell into place.
“There wasn’t a real question for us whether or not to do it when the opportunity came,” says Rector. “It looked like an exciting community was being built and we wanted to be a part of it.” She and co-owner Lisa Donaldson had noticed, for some time, the significant growth in new housing projects in the Bedford area.
“There’s a new school opening there and it seemed like a really natural place to be located,” says Rector. “Especially since the things that are important to us, like really good parking can be hard to find in downtown Halifax.” The Bedford location will be accessible off the highway and have a large parking lot for the busy customers to safely park.
Rector believes that every community is different in its own subtle ways and part of what makes Fiddleheads popular is being responsive to its surroundings. “We’re never happy with our current mix of products and always asking what the customers wish we carried,” says Rector. “By doing that at the new location time will tell what products will best suit the customers who live in that area.”
Rector and Donaldson are aiming for a September or October opening for the new Bedford Fiddleheads, which will be open Monday to Friday 10am-6pm, Saturday 10am-5pm and Sunday 11am-5pm.
