Six epic Mother’s Day brunches

Be a good kid and make a reservation.

The Barrington Steakhouse & Oyster Bar 1662 Barrington Street, 11am-3pm Take the whole fam-jam out in the name of BBQ rib-cap hash, banana bread French toast or olive oil and semolina trifle. Raise a glass to the nurturers and motherly folks among us.

Cunard Centre 961 Marginal Road, 11am-2pm
A fundraiser for non-profit, community-based Family Service Association—the 28th annual for that matter—this brunch sees RCR group (the East of Grafton, Agricola Street Brasserie and CUT people) put on a massive spread in the name of your ma or mother figure. Dig into a buffet, silent auction and live music in the name of a good cause. There's a kid's section (crafts and bouncy things) too. Get tickets ($55) at halifaxmothersdaybrunch.ca.

The Narrows Bistro at DoubleTree
101 Wyse Road, 11am-3pm
Something about the word choice here screams fancy. Choose from a variety of "pavilions"—seafood, breakfast, hot, cold, beverage and dessert—for delish dishes of all kinds. Strap on the feed bag and chow down for $49.95.

Elements on Hollis
1181 Hollis Street, 11am-3pm
What's brunch without a meat-carving station? You don't have to worry about that question at The Westin's mom day meal. Fifty bucks gets you plentiful breakfast, lunch and dessert options, and for every ticket sold the hotel makes a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Gio Restaurant
1725 Market Street, 12-2pm
At $75 a pop, this meal is made for royalty, but the menu reflects the price tag. If the sushi bar, Belgian waffles, lamb shoulder and pheasant roulade aren't doing it for you, sample from the ramen station, crepe station or rainbow of salad options. Cheese display? Sure! Homemade bread? Awesome! Desserts for days? Don't mind if I do.

Vines Pasta Grill
4 Panavista Drive, 9am-2:30pm
The regular Sunday brunch at this Dartmouth gem has gained a solid reputation as a must-try feast, but this weekend its extra special thanks to the maternal holiday. Dig into piles of hefty breakfast options, pasta, soup, pizza and seafood and a whole table dedicated to dessert. Sure, mom might have told you not to spoil your meal with sweets, but doughnuts and cheesecakes and pastries beg to differ. Celebrate your maker by overdoing it for $22.95. —AS
