The Bell Orchestre just flew in from Montreal and, boy, are their arms tired.

The TD Canada Trust Atlantic Jazz Festival (July 10-18) released the identities of a few of their acts this year, so start your planning/salivating. Joe Louis Walker shows off his blues proficiency, including Delta and Chicago styles, Memphis soul, gospel and rockabilly; the ever-popular soprano saxophonist Jane Bunnett doles out the Cuban flavour; Montreal-based pianist and composer Félix Stüssi mixes modernity and tradition; acrobatic pianist Oliver Jones (no actual trapezes or tumbling involved) displays his lightning-fast technique and superband The Bell Orchestre brings in the young’uns. Made up of Richard Reed Parry (Arcade Fire), Sarah Neufeld (Arcade Fire), Stefan Schneider (The Luyas), Pietro Amato (Torngat, The Luyas), Kaveh Nabatian and Mike Feuerstack (Snailhouse), The Bell Orchestre has moved away from their improvisational collaborations with contemporary dancers and have “continued to evolve and exude unique, intangible physical qualities.” Ethereal! Expect to hear strings, bells, horns, drums, stethoscopes, samples and quiet noise. For tickets, contact 492-2225, info@jazzeast.com or in person at 1313 Hollis Street (side door) anytime between 11am-5pm.
