Rest easy, surf enthusiasts (and fans of shopping at the corner of Morris and Queen): new surf emporium If Only (1300 Queen) is on its way. The shop'll carry top-of-the-line equipment for surfers and windsurfers, as well as nifty apparel and flip-flops from old school surf apparel line Katin, funkier lines like Factor 54 and Tavik, lesser-known handsewn label Collectic and more. If Only's the baby of first-time shop owner John McLellan. "I've been in this industry for a long time," says McLellan, of the surfing trade. "This was always sort of where I saw myself going with it.... About a year ago decided to pull the trigger and put it together." What kind of surf shop can we expect to find, once McLellan finishes renovating (and the gunsmoke from all that trigger-pulling clears)? "It's a real surf shop," emphasizes McLellan, who wants his shop to be "independent" and "forward-thinking." In other words: McLellan wants to show surfers (and surf apparel lovers) that they don't have to wear duds from Billabong. (Still want the word Billabong in your daily vocabulary? I say we turn it into another word for "kudos." As in,"Good one, bro! Billabong!") McLellan will start selling his unique wares in the old Super Videospace sometime in early June.
