To the editor,

Even though Alexa McDonough has had a clear lead over other opponents since 1997, there should be no doubt about the NDP's ability to maintain that seat in the upcoming federal election. They have a young candidate who has worked in the trenches with those in society whom the other parties ignore; she is also the most grassroots member of the NDP constituency members.

The Conservatives (once known as "progressive") have, on the other hand, (on their second try)appointed a candidate from head office to represent the US style big business, lock 'em up and throw-away-the-key agenda. Ask Danny Williams or Bill Casey about the position of Atlantic issues.

The LIberal Party is still reeling without a rudder with a weak policy-book---its "green shift" will tax the poor and give to the rich by charging more for essentials, and giving back money to only to those who pay income taxes (rob the poor and give it to the rich). Remember, it was Paul Martin who gave us the wait-lines at the hospitals.

The Green Party, the Liberals' lap dog, have a policy book with only one entry---the environment.

Megan Leslie will be a worthy successor to Alexa.
