That's the way the ball bounces....

The World Cup introduced a new ball this year, the Adidas’s Jabulani. This has been the cause of all sorts of whining by the he-men soccer players:
Algeria’s Fawzi Chaouchi was the latest keeper to be impacted when he allowed a long-range strike from Slovenia’s Robert Koren to evade his grasp and produce the only goal of a 1-0 loss at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday.

Chaouchi could not control his emotions after the game. After striding through the interview zone without pausing to speak to reporters, he boarded the team bus and cried.

Coaches are blaming the ball for their team's losing performances, and players complain that it is unpredictable.

The new ball freaks me out-- aren't soccer balls supposed to have that repeating black and white pattern? But here's the deal: everyone plays with the same ball! The ball doesn't discriminate against one side and then magically perform flawlessly for the other. It is what it is, like a snowy NFL game, or running a marathon in 35 degree heat.

Toront FC striker Chad Barrett put it succinctly: “Really, it’s just a matter of shutting up and playing.”
