The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee

When: June 20-July 7, 8 p.m. and Sundays, 2 p.m. Continues through July 7 2013

F-u-n-n-y. Q-u-i-r-k-y. G-r-e-a-t. You get the picture. The TAG production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a fun evening of theatre that features a cast of outstanding singer/dancer/actors. The first act includes three intrepid audience members who become part of the action as a band of misfit prodigies try to spell their way to fame. It’s a riot to watch the actors include the “civilians” in the action. The second act delves more into the back stories of the characters. Anders Balderson shines as a goofy, adorable homeschooler. Karen Myatt brings her powerhouse voice and a lovely vulnerability as a lonely newcomer. Rebecca Guilderson is superb as a lisping miniature activist. Kyle Gillis is hilarious as the mucus-filled spelling genius. The music is catchy and well-done (especially a lovely trio with Myatt, Margaret Champion and Andrew Chandler). B-r-a-v-o! —Kate Watson
