The Clumsy Lovers
Smart Kid
Mainstays of the Vancouver folk scene for a decade, the Clumsy Lovers plop onto the national radar with their seventh album. Fiddle and banjo are granted power to rock in the proper hands, driving uplifting songs (where clumsy love rates extra value for being honest). If the aim is to sound live in the studio, and to create more electricity than they consume, well…done and done. The title cut could be background in a plot from DaVinci’s Inquest, as an addict is born of bad luck and carelessness. The lone gal among the five, Andrea Lewis, makes the most of her lead vocal on “Okay Alright,” a most joyous romp against adversity. The Clumsy Lovers burst with spunk that needs to be spilled in the rest of the country. So get out here already.
