The Coast's guide to a DIY Halloween

Stuck for an idea? Here's some ideas from this week's issue and the greater world abroad.

Notes from Meghan Whitton (photographer): cloak was made with a sheet and two drapes. I made the sword out of cardboard and tin foil. the "shield" is an aluminum plate from the dollar store. Fishnets from the dollar store. Dog chain bracelets from the dollar store, and lots of makeup.

Photographers' notes: hockey pads, bike chain, studded belt, curtain rod, plastic bags, shin pads, respirator, and the "weapons" are two metal pieces of junk I found.

Photographers' notes: pink shorts and bag from Value VIllage, and the rest of the clothes were taken out of mine and friends' wardrobes.

Photographers' notes: dirt, dirty clothes, work boots, hard hat and a flashlight taped to his hat. Optional shovel or pick.
