The Commissar screening

When: Thu., Oct. 12, 2:30 p.m. 2017

Aleksandr Askoldov's sweeping, 100-minute recount of the Russian Civil War sees a pregnant cavalry commissar billetted with a reluctant Jewish family. As the front line creeps ever closer, they begin to bond. The 1967 effort includes music by great Russian composer Alfred Schnittke and is part of an ongoing series of screenings chronicling the Russian Revolutions.
