The Hurt Process

A Heartbeat Behind

by

The Hurt ProcessA Heartbeat Behind(Victory)The latest offering from this UK quintet is disappointing, to say the least. Sounding like a poor mixture of Thursday and Killswitch Engage, The Hurt Process is yet another less-than-mediocre emocore outfit. Its biography announces it has “brutal breakdowns and killer pop hooks,” which appears to be the formula it tried to use in writing A Heartbeat Behind. This album sounds fabricated, from the production to the sappy attempt at an acoustic song. Although there is some solid instrumentation, it’s simply not worth sitting through several monotonous songs to hear it. It sounds like the band could write something substantial, but with lyrics like, “I see your eyes, they catch my smile," it’ll surely end up as another forgotten emocore band. —Brian Boates
