The Immigrant

When: Fri., Sept. 26, 7 p.m. 2014

Ewa and sister, Magda, sail to New York from their native Poland in search of a new start. Released onto the mean streets of Manhattan while her sister is quarantined, Ewa finds herself alone, with nowhere to turn and desperate to reunite with her sister. She falls prey to a charming but wicked man who takes her in and forces her into prostitution, until a dashing stage magician restores her self-belief and hopes for a brighter future. Beautiful visuals, James Gray's confident direction, and a powerful performance from Marion Cotillard combine to make THE IMMIGRANT a richly rewarding period drama. It was nominated for the Palme d'Or at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival.

Price: $7
