The Incredible Burt Wonderstone

Duelling magicians compete for the love of Las Vegas showmanship in the clunky comedy The Incredible Burt Wonderstone. After losing his "magical friendship" with partner Anton Marvelton (the always game Steve Buscemi), Wonderstone (Steve Carell) has to give up his lavish lifestyle and relearn the roots of stage magic if he ever hopes to defeat dangerous new street magician, Steve Gray: Brain Rapist (Jim Carrey). From there, everything turns into disastrous blend of Zoolander and The Prestige. A dismal screenplay bats characters around with little purpose and even less structure. Wonderstone himself is a character constantly in flux. Carell seems to alternate his role's motivation (and accent) with each new scene. Olivia Wilde is wasted as just another big screen love interest who falls for the star because the script tell her to. Aside from some winning stage banter/dancing between Carell and Buscemi, The Incredible Burt Wonderstone can't pull much more out of its hat. —Jacob Boon
